Coming Home

The Pacific this morning and the Atlantic this evening.
Coming home from our cross country trip for Mom's funeral.
The open skies and puffy clouds made me think of her.
There is so much to say about life and death.
Love and loss.
In the coming weeks I will be using this space to make sense of it all.
I hope we can learn together.
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and prayers.
I have felt them in a real way that I didn't know was possible.
Please continue to send them as they are so needed.

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your mother's death, Whitney. Was it unexpected? Please know I am thinking and praying for you. I know you are one strong gal, but even the strong ones need a place to sort out their feelings. I'd like to read more about what you are feeling.

  3. Dear, sweet friend. Thank you for the note you left. My heart feels so heavy to know of your loss. I don't know what it's like to lose a mother, but I know those moments of emptiness and sadness you mentioned. They are such an unavoidable part of love and loss. I love that scripture in D & C 42.."thou shalt live together in love, insomuch that thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die." Something about that was so comforting to me after Wes's funeral, when the pain was so unrelenting..."thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die." It made me realize that the grief I felt was expected and accepted by God - commanded, even, as a truly important part of the love. Anyway, I didn't mean to come over here to ramble...just to let you know of my love and prayers. It's so hard. There is no way around that. But your words and pictures and the spirit they communicate are so sweet. I can tell you're finding the beauty (painful beauty) inherent in experiences like this. I'm sure your mother sees that too and is as proud of you as ever! MUCH LOVE, Lori
